Discovering Today. Changing Tomorrow.
Founded in 1968, the University of the West Indies Geographical Society (UWIGS) is an undergraduate student society that comprises of students from the Department of Geography and Geology as well as those from across all faculties of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. The UWIGS forms the student arm of its parent organization the Jamaican Geographical Society (JGS) to which the society features premiere youth leaders in the field of Geography.
As a professional undergraduate student body, we are passionate about engaging in national, regional and international topics such as Disaster Management and Risk Reduction, Climate Change, Economic Growth and Development, Rural and Urban Development, Culture and Society, Agriculture, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Natural Resource Use and Management, Globalization, Political Geography and International Relations, Human, Physical and Social Planning, Environmental Awareness and Protection as well as that of the Physical and Natural Environment, just to name a few.
As young aspiring geographers, we have learned how to apply our geographic knowledge in all spheres of life which have in turn been shaped into dedicated academic and professional advocates who will discover today and change tomorrow.
